A routine check of an abandoned site in the Amazon jungle suddenly turned into a deadly adventure. A military squad led by Sergeant Bretman was surveying an old illegal mining area when one soldier spotted fresh tire tracks in the mud.
It meant only one thing: someone had been there very recently.
The tracks led through the dense undergrowth but abruptly ended near a massive, rotting tree stump. No buildings, vehicles, or camps lay nearby; the place seemed completely deserted.
One of the soldiers kicked the bark.
Instead of the dull thud of wood, a clear metallic ring echoed out.
The soldiers immediately went on alert. They began clearing away moss, wet earth, and chunks of bark. A metal structure gradually emerged beneath. The huge stump was merely a disguise—its top section concealed a heavy hatch.

When they lifted the lid, a blast of cold, stale air wafted up from the opening. Below lay a concrete shaft, with a narrow spiral staircase winding down its walls.
Bretman took two soldiers with him. They began to descend, lighting their way with flashlights. The sunlight overhead quickly vanished, leaving nothing but thick darkness all around.
At the bottom, they found themselves in a narrow underground corridor. Old cots, tools, and a dust-covered table created the impression of a long-abandoned hideout.
But then, Bretman noticed a strange detail.
A modern plastic bag lay on the floor. An overturned chair sat nearby, and fresh footprints marked the dirty floor.
It appeared that the people who had been there had left in a hurry.
At the end of the corridor, the soldiers saw a massive metal door. It was ajar by only a few centimeters.
Bretman approached and shone his flashlight into the gap.
The beam illuminated a large metal tank. A thick, dark liquid was leaking from it, spreading across the floor. Gas masks and protective gloves lay nearby.
Then, the light fell upon a warning sign.
Bretman turned pale.
He stepped back sharply and ordered:
“BACK! FALL BACK IMMEDIATELY!”
The soldiers scrambled toward the stairs as fast as they could. They made it outside within minutes and reported the discovery to the specialists.

A subsequent inspection using a remote-controlled camera revealed a chilling secret.
Beneath an old tree stump lay an illegal underground gold-processing facility. The tanks held a concentrated cyanide solution—an extremely toxic substance capable of posing a lethal threat even without direct contact.
The piping system had likely been damaged due to equipment failure. When they noticed the leak, the workers fled the underground complex in a panic, trying to conceal it.
The worst part was that the confined space could quickly turn into a deadly trap.
Had the military personnel remained underground any longer, the consequences could have been catastrophic.
A few days later, heavy machinery arrived in the jungle. Specialists filled the shaft with concrete, completely sealing off the dangerous site.
The old stump once again became just a part of the forest.
Yet beneath it lay a hidden history—one no one ever intended to discover.
