A seemingly ordinary pimple near her nose turned into a nightmare for 32-year-old Alisha Monaco. The Michigan woman decided to get rid of the inflammation herself, but soon regretted her decision.

The pimple was located on the side of her nose, just under her nostril. Alisha took a special instrument, pretreated it, and tried to press gently on the inflamed area. However, almost immediately, she felt something was wrong.

According to the woman, as she attempted to pop the pimple, she suddenly felt a popping sensation in her right ear. Almost immediately, she experienced severe pain and dizziness.

Then Alisha remembered the so-called “triangle of death”—the area of the face from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Doctors warn against mindlessly popping pimples in this area, as the infection can, in rare cases, spread through the blood vessels to deeper structures of the head. Realizing the situation was clearly abnormal, Alisha stopped trying. She treated her skin and tried using a special acne patch, hoping it would subside overnight.

But in the morning, it was significantly worse.

A few hours later, she woke up in severe pain. Her face was noticeably swollen, and her condition frightened her so much that she couldn’t even bring herself to look in the mirror right away. Alisha’s husband was also amazed at how much her face had changed due to the minor inflammation.

That morning, she went to the emergency room. She was embarrassed to see a doctor for what seemed like a trivial pimple, but the specialists explained that she had done the right thing.

Doctors prescribed antibiotic tablets, antibacterial cream, a steroid, and nasal spray. It was also discovered that a significant amount of fluid had accumulated in her right ear.

Fortunately, the treatment was quick to produce results. Within the first 12 hours, the swelling began to subside noticeably. Three days later, her face had completely returned to normal, and about a week later, the pimple itself had disappeared.

After her ordeal, Alisha decided to share her experience on TikTok. Her video garnered millions of views and caused quite a stir. Many users admitted they had never heard of the risks associated with pimples in this area of the face.

“Sometimes it feels like we’re just squeezing a pimple, but it’s better to let it heal,” says Alisha.

Experts also advise against picking or squeezing pimples in the affected area. Instead, you can use a warm compress or a special acne patch.

Alisha’s story became an unexpected reminder for many users: not every pimple on the face should be touched. Sometimes, a few days of patience are much safer than trying to get rid of a pimple yourself.
